The Challenge All Stars Season 2 Trailer Breakdown
I will be breaking down the Trailer of the Challenge All Stars Season 2 as I do every season. There are no spoilers in this article that you won’t figure out by watching the trailer super slowly. YES, there are spoilers, but they are spoilers via inference and analysis. Essentially, if I see something with my eyes in this trailer, it is not a spoiler. Above is the trailer in video form.
The trailer opens with 2010 Joaquin Phoenix… I mean, Brad Fiorenza. He is on a boat, wearing shades so you don’t get distracted by his massive eyeballs.
They then throw shots of four different players cruising on a boat and give us two men from All Stars Season 1: Darrell & Nehemiah, and two women who have come out of retirement with Janelle Casanave (RW Key West) and Casey Cooper (Fresh Meat 1). We last saw Janelle as an early exit on the Gauntlet 3, her second season, she won her original season, the Inferno 3, as part of the Bad Asses, and she stills look as stunning as ever. The last time we saw Casey, she was losing the final elimination of the Ruins to Susie. Casey was actually an alternate for All Stars Season 1. Until Amber B won Double Agents, Nehemiah, Janelle, and Darrell were the three most recent Black Challenge champions in that order.
As we get these cast member looks, a TJ sound byte drops, saying, “some of you have been waiting a long time for this, the chance to capture that elusive victory….” A curious sound byte as 4 of the 5 people they flashed have all won a Challenge Championship, and the other, Casey, is part of the Good Times club.
We then get a look at the elimination arena, one from overhead and the other from a backdoor top view. The stadium looks eerily similar to the Killing Floor from War of the Worlds 1.
The TJ sound byte continues, saying: “To earn your second chance, you got to work harder, dig deeper.” Extremely generic and on-par for Mr. TJ.
TJ then welcomes the cast to the second season of Challenge All Stars as a dramatic cover of Smash Mouth’s “All Star” plays. It looks like they are walking towards their first daily challenge of the season.
There is a graphic saying All Grit, followed up with some action shots. A player is competing in an elimination that looks like a hardcore tug-of-war and based on the skin complexion/tattoos, it is Nehemiah, someone who went into two eliminations last season. We then see Ayanna Mackins (who we haven’t seen in a long time), running; behind her is another pair of players. I assume this is a paired daily challenge.
They show a male player pushing a contraption atop a moving vehicle; then, we see a female player hanging off a metal beam off the side of a giant monster truck with multiple vehicles trailing them. These vehicles have three different colored flags hanging out of them, each being worth different points, I’m guessing. My assumption is they are co-ed pairs trying to accumulate as many points as possible to win.
There was a similar daily challenge on Total Madness won by Melissa and Josh.
Going from Grit to Determination. There is a GoPro POV of two players riding bikes together, and as we have seen from most of this trailer, there is a strong chance of a pair format at some point in this game. This could be a look at the All Stars 2 Final because I cannot remember the last time we saw a player ride a bike when it wasn’t the final.
We also see a player in the elimination arena dropping what looks like a literal ball of fire into a wall with nine slots open. My guess is they are playing an elimination similar to Wes & Bananas from Total Madness, where instead of batteries, they need to find whatever it is that’s on fire.
We get our first look at 2x Champ Jodi Weatherton, returning for the first time since her dominant win on the Duel 1. Jodi seems to be cranking something in the shot as a sound byte of her plays saying, “I want to make my kids proud, the fans proud. My only option is to win.” She has to be the favorite on the female side; Jodi was a beast back in the day and has stayed in fantastic shape. Teck is seen diving into a pool of water hidden between some caves.
From All Grit to All Determination to All Stars. Nehemiah is seen giving the house toast saying Season 2 will be the best Challenge they/we have ever had.
The editors rev up the action. We see Jonna looking cool and confident. Kendal is seen swimming, carrying what seem to be puzzle pieces in her mouth.
Then we see Co-Ed groupings tethered together as they can run. Brad and Jodi seem to be partnered, which if these last for the entire season, that is a powerhouse duo. MJ and a female are behind them. Trailing them are Nehemiah and Melinda, long-time friends who were on the Real World Austin together.
A player hanging upside down from a steel beam falls into some water. Not sure what the challenge is, but when the player falls, and they pan out, you can see production in a boat alongside them, with someone holding a stopwatch to track times.
Derrick hits a “BOOYAH” to remind you that this is a show rooted in nostalgia. Meanwhile, Jodi looks to be congratulating a partner in the water; I’m guessing they killed the daily challenge. If you look off the right of the photo of Jodi, you can see the same steel beam the player in the pictures above was dropping from.
There seems to be an epic daily challenge. Two semi-trucks drive alongside a double-decker semi-truck where players jump from one truck to another to grab what I believe to be puzzle pieces. At the top of the double-decker truck, you can see a table where it looks like they are supposed to put their puzzle pieces on.
They had a similar challenge on Total Madness that Jordan & Nany won. You can see Nehemiah as the guy making a leap of faith in one of the images. There is also a sound byte of a female saying, “The competition is going to get nasty.”
Darrell is running with Janelle wearing the same tethers we saw players wearing earlier. That is another potential power duo. He cuts a confessional talking about how he lost his first final ever on All Stars 1 and is back to redeem himself.
Laterrian is getting medical assistance after a daily challenge. Then we see Nehemiah taking a leap of faith to grab a block with numbers, likely to solve a math problem or puzzle.
There is a group shot of players watching a daily challenge in shock/excitement. You can see in the bottom from Left to Right: Tyler, Derrick, MJ, Nehemiah, Brad, and Ryan. Up top, you can see from Left to Right: Janelle, Kendal, Melinda, Jodi, Jonna, Ayanna, Jasmine, Tina, Casey (?), and Katie. Meaning, we see 10 Men and 6 Women; thus, I assume that 3–4 men are competing in the daily challenge they are watching.
Derrick is pulling a Tori Deal special by throwing out these “shocked” faces where I have zero context to project what is actually going on. If I had to guess, TJ told the challengers that he thinks Cars 2 is a Great Movie, to which Derrick had the appropriate reaction as Cars 2 stinks. Nehemiah gets a confessional saying, “Something always comes back to bite you in the ass.”
A couple more looks at the elimination arena. We saw where the audience would be watching the battles. You can also see some art portraying some bulls, which has me thinking they are trying to mimic Plaza Toros Las Ventas, the most famous bullfighting arena in Spain.
We see Ayanna & Teck and then Melinda & Nehemiah in their competition gear inside the elimination arena. Again, it looks like this will be a partnered season. Sophia Pasquis gets a confessional saying, “You think a friend would say, hey, there’s my back, you want to put a knife in it?” Could she be referring to Steve & Katie, with whom she did her Road Rules season with back in the day or something between two other players? Sophia has only been one before, Battle of the Sexes 2, and she made the final of that season.
Casey and LT look shocked while watching an elimination.
It looks like they are bringing back the elimination from Bloodlines where players have to completely take apart a room and everything inside of it by breaking all items. You can see it is a pairs elimination as a male and female are working together.
The two players competing together might be Jodi & Brad. On the male side, I can tell the name is four letters, and that isn’t Ryan Kehoe’s body type. Whoever put them in was making a power move. It also makes sense when it comes to what we see next.
Jodi, looking vengeful, tells someone, “Well, if I come in 1st, I know who I am throwing in.” Is it just me, or does Jodi look a bit like Hilary Swank?
Jasmine is popping off with excitement, watching an elimination, as is Ryan Kehoe. LT looks worried. Based on Jasmine’s excitement, Derek or Jonna is doing well in an elimination as I can’t see Jasmine getting that excited for anyone else.
A fly looking Teck tells us, “It’s about to get ugly, y’all.” We see Jonna consoling a tearful Melinda.
Jodi is in tears as she hugs Brad. The two look rather damp. Tina is banging pots and pans, quite literally stirring the pot. Jasmine and Teck can be seen in the shot where Tina is doing all the banging.
Jonna and MJ are eating what looks like Spinach Wraps, but I’m guessing it is really something much grosser. The assumption is they are partners due to them having the same color armbands. Jonna looks to be in much better shape this time around, which is massive as she already tied for 1st among females in the All Stars 1 Final.
MJ completely douses himself with an ice-cold water bottle. Then he cuts a wide-eyed confessional, saying, “I don’t even know what I’m getting into, but I’m fucking ready.” Which is precisely the type of energy you love to see from an OG. We last saw MJ on Duel 2 after he lost a Final 5 elimination to Brad.
Our next action shot are a male player jumping and dunking a ball into a net as he falls into water. His female teammate stands by watching him. Then we see a female diving into the water to unlock/untie a giant chest.
Later we see Darrell and Tyler carrying a giant 3D puzzle piece together. Followed up by what looks to be two teams battling it out to solve their puzzle. That very well could be the first mission of the season, a two-team battle just like they had last season.
Ryan Kehoe is seen sprinting during a daily challenge. Casey gets a confessional saying, “The grand prize is 500k Dollars. That’s life-changing money. You ain’t seen nothing yet.” Then we get a bunch of action shots:
Ayanna gracefully takes a massive fall into some water where she is questioning why she agreed to return. Teck is dunking a ball in the net just like the player above was.
The fireball elimination from earlier in the trailer looks to be a female elimination, or at the very least, a pair elimination. Likewise, the group shot picture from earlier where I noted that there were 10 Women and 6 Men, it looks like they were competing in a Trivia Challenge, as you can see 10 Women are waiting to get sent flying off a building, with two of them having gotten taken out already. This makes me assume that the 6 Men we saw earlier in the picture lost that daily challenge.
Katie pleads to not get shot off the platform, and then they show us someone else getting knocked off, terrifyingly. End trailer.
My biggest takeaway coming out of this trailer is that Nehemiah & Jodi are easily two most featured characters, which is a pleasant surprise.
