Challenge Double Agents Player Preview: Demetrius “Mechie” Harris
One of the newest additions is Mechie Harris. He is one of my favorite casting choices from a personality standpoint. The guy should be a fun addition to the house from a hook-up/drama aspect. Mechie got cast because he brings a bit of following with him, considering he has over 500k Instagram followers, 250k+ YouTube Subscribers, loads of listeners to his music, and an OnlyFans for the fans of art.
Introducing Mechie: Technically, his original reality show is Ex on the Beach Season 3. However, that is not what he is famous for. Mechie first gained fame as part of the musical group 4EY, consisting of him and two close-friends coming out of the DC metro area (DMV). In 2015, they caught fire due to their song, “Scoot Ova,” which had a semi-viral dance that got them booked on VH1, BET, and appearances across the nation. As a solo act, Mechie even opened for Meek Mill at one point. Sidenote: Meek Mill makes some fantastic music. He may have gotten clowned by Drake a half-decade ago, but the man creates some brilliant tracks, especially his feature on the movie Creed. Back to Mechie, eventually, the group split up, and he is now focusing on solo endeavors.
In 2017, Mechie’s name began trending during the Rob Kardashian Revenge Porn scandal. After Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna split, he chose to post videos of Chyna having sex with other men to “expose her.” In reality, that’s Revenge Porn and illegal. One of the men rumored to have been in the videos is Mechie, and he has fully admitted to being in them. A bit of a wild ride for the man from humble beginnings. I love the casting of Mechie because from watching interviews of him, he is someone who grinded to be where he is now. His dad wasn’t in his life much, and his older brother, who filled the void for a bit, also went to federal prison for 10 years when Mechie was young. They were a family of 5 living in a one-bedroom apartment at points. In 2020, Mechie has accumulated a big following, been wrapped up in a Kardashian scandal, and is venturing into reality television. He’s living a lot of people’s dreams.
Player Vitals
Demetrius Mechie Harris: 27 Years Old, 5'11, 160–175 lbs, ROOKIE
Skills and Physical Strength: Old online profiles state that Mechie is 5'7 and 155–165 lbs. Through some Twitter deep diving, I found that he is 5'11 and recently has put on a bit more mass. I’m a bit afraid that Mechie will have difficulty in this game due to perceived weakness because he is a smaller guy, similar to Jay. Mechie is fairly athletic. He has many clips of himself over the years playing basketball, and Mechie can not only dunk a basketball, but he can dunk with style. The speed and leaping power for the dunks he accomplishes at his size is remarkable. Sometimes daily challenges and eliminations come down to a footrace, and the person with the better first step will always have the advantage. Mechie shouldn’t be trying to get into any Pole Wrestles, but he might win a Balls In type game.
When it comes to swimming and heights, he will have to adapt in the moment.
SSMP (Social, Strategic, Mental, and Political) Game: His social game is his key to success and lasting long. Mechie is a fun person to be around. He knows how to party, the guy has clout as a musician, and he’s damn good-looking. Every interview I watch, the hosts are always enamored by this man. If Mechie can pull a Kyle and sleep in the bed of a power player, make friends with the top menu, and be along for the ride, then he will thrive. If not, he will be on borrowed time this season. In terms of the strategic and political game, Mechie needs to find a way to stay in the house to make plays potentially. Polidicking is the way to play for him.
Eliminations & Winning Potential: A Pole Wrestle or a Reverse Tug of War are not Mechie’s games. They are size-based and won’t let him use much of his speed/athleticism. I think a Balls In type game could potentially be something he is good at if he knows how to start, stop, and juke. If they ever do an elimination like the Bananas/Rogan one again, we know that Mechie has the leaping ability to succeed.
Could Mechie win? I don’t think he is quite ready for all the Challenge throws at you. If Mechie can last eight to ten episodes, I would consider that a success and anything more is gravy. He is going to bring fun vibes to the show, and that’s something the Challenge needs.
